Communication is a primary focus at St Lucy's.  It provides students with a foundation to independent life in the community and also to meaningful relationships which are the basis of human life.

Communication is the capacity to interact with others by the most effective means available, through spoken and written language, Braille, signing, gesture, various kinds of electronic communication and the visual and performing arts.

The stages of the communication curriculum are:

• pre-intentional stage of communication
• development of length of utterance and use of syntax
• Early Foundation Stage of Outcomes in Speaking and Listening
• Board of Studies' syllabus in Speaking and Listening
