St Lucy's School
A community enriched by difference
Quality Teaching
Quality teaching and learning is key to bring out the best in our students.
We employ multi-skilled and innovative teachers who are passionate about teaching children with special needs. Our teaching staff have years of experience and training, and specialise in educating children with a wide range of disabilities. This includes mild to severe intellectual disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, physical disabilities and other sensory impairments. Staff are also expert in Positive Behaviour and different forms of communication support.
Our teachers live by our values in the classroom everyday:
- Embracing Joy – our teachers make learning fun, embracing different interactive teaching methods, to bring the best in students
- Fostering community – we believe the best student outcomes come from open communication between teachers and families. St Lucy’s families are integral members of our school community and together we can work towards our student’s goals.
- Courage - we encourage growth in both our teachers and students by trying new things. Learning comes from experimentation and this is encouraged both within and outside of the classroom.
- Truth – listening, talking, experimenting, and drawing conclusions in the pursuit of answers are all encouraged at St Lucy’s.
We live Joy, foster Community, act with Courage, pursue the Truth
St Lucy’s is an incredible school for children with disabilities that I cannot recommend enough. It was the first school I felt my child was accepted and loved for his differences and where diversity was celebrated. The teachers and staff are so passionate, caring and dedicated – always. They use the latest technique and creative ways of teaching to engage the children in the class room and out in the community. My son loves going to school each day and I feel reassured knowing he is in a safe, accepting and nurturing environment. The school provides specialist education in literacy, numeracy, social and emotional learning along with independence skills. Best of all the school now has a high school and will be Kindergarten to Year 12 by 2024. I have also found the parent network and support amazing. It is a special community of likeminded families who are all experiencing the same challenges. I now understand why families travel from across Sydney to go to St Lucy’s, you will not find another school like it.

“Where to start! Our child has thrived as a result of his teachers. They know him and how he learns, and this is a standout for us”

My daughter attends St Lucy’s school and from the very first time we attended the Open Day, we were very emotional and felt an overwhelming sense of relief. We had found a community that would celebrate our daughter’s strengths, abilities and give her a platform to flourish. We attended the school for a parent information evening and then were supported with the Individual Education Plan (IEP) earlier this term. During the IEP meeting we worked through our daughter’s goals with the St Lucy’s teaching team, internal Speech Pathologist and our external Speech Pathologist to ensure we are all working together with a consistent approach. Over the last few weeks my husband and I have attended two Positive Behaviour workshops at the school, it was great to hear from the Behaviour Support Practitioners and give the parents practical strategies and a safe forum to discuss our personal stories. We greatly appreciate the school’s ongoing support.
