At St Lucy’s, we understand that every student deserves a quality education tailored to their individual strengths and challenges. At St Lucy’s High School, we are proud to be one of the leading special education schools for Year 12 students. We recognise that each student has different learning abilities, and we provide personalised academic programs that meet their unique needs.
If you are specifically searching for an ASD school for Year 12 students, St Lucy’s High School is here to meet your requirements. Our school has a specialised program designed to support students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) as they navigate their final year of high school. Our dedicated team of educators and therapists work collaboratively to create a structured and supportive learning environment that promotes growth and independence.
At St Lucy’s High School, we believe in the power of inclusion. We are proud to be one of the most inclusive schools for Year 12 students with special needs. Inclusion is at the heart of our philosophy, and we strive to create a sense of belonging and acceptance for all our students. By fostering an inclusive community, we provide opportunities for students to learn from one another, develop empathy, and build lifelong friendships.
In recognition that all students are entitled to participate in and progress through the curriculum, NESA provides year 10 students courses based on Life Skills outcomes and content. These provide options for students with special education needs who cannot access the regular course outcomes, particularly for students with an intellectual disability. The Life Skills Curriculum is designed in such a way that students only have to study ‘some’ of the designated outcomes and content from a particular course.
St Lucy’s year 12 students increasingly undertake their learning in the community with a focus on increasing their independence, preparation for work (where appropriate) and recreational options and development of hobbies. St Lucy’s also has a Post School Options Co-ordinator who works with students and their families to create pathways into post-school employment settings and lifestyle opportunities. Students completing Year 12 at St Lucy’s will be eligible for a Higher School Certificate. They will not be awarded an ATAR.
Selecting students based on their needs and the balance of the class is an important aspect of creating a successful learning environment at St Lucy’s. It is important that we take into consideration the unique learning needs of each student, as well as the overall balance of the class in terms of ability levels, personalities, and interests.
Ensuring that the class is balanced and diverse can help promote inclusivity and improve the overall learning experience for all students. Additionally, selecting students based on their specific needs can help provide more personalised attention and support, ultimately resulting in better academic outcomes. For this reason we have an extensive process at St Lucy’s and we not only take into consideration the needs of your child but also the needs of the year group, when considering enrolment.
St Lucy’s High School is a premier choice for high schools that cater to both ASD students and students with various special needs. Our comprehensive curriculum, combined with individualised support, helps students achieve their academic and personal goals. Our multidisciplinary approach ensures that each student receives the necessary accommodations and services to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
